Rodeo collaborated with a large team prequalified for a parallel assigment to develop a masterplan for Sandvika Centre, focusing on the historical centre on the east bank and the area surrounding the railway station.

Our proposal “Sandvika United” builds on the local qualities and addresses the challenges of Sandvika. In addition to architecture and urban planning analysis, we conducted a series of interviews with local stakeholders; Association, landowners, businesses, leaders and bearings in general. On this basis, we formulated a four part strategy for the development of Sandvika East and surrounding areas, with the overall goal is to unite Sandvika into one city:

1 Sandvikelva at the center of Sandvika:

The river is the city’s greatest quality.  The river banks are upgrade and add new program is added to strengthen the river as a central urban space, uniting the two sides of Sandvika. The river is also a natural axis and connection to the bay and islands.

2 A “ringgate” through the center

A new shared surface “ringgate” (ring road) is established (based on existing street structure) that unites the two sides of the river and strengthens legibility and access to the town center of Sandvika. All important functions, urban spaces, public transport and parking is connected to the ring road.

3 Densification and Urbanisation:

Sandvika center is densified and new program is added. This densification creates new opportunities for urban residential development on Kadettangen and Løkketangen, bringing more people to the city center, to activate the streets and riverfront and to support the stores, restaurants and cultural facilities.

4 Integration of public transport hub in the city:

Sandvika station is developed as part of the city. The bus terminal is transformed into street space giving space to the future expansion of railway lines. The future T-Bane subway station is connected to the ring road, as well as ferry boats to the islands. The city's road network used to strengthen the transition between different modes of transport and support the street life.
