Torget and Bryggen in Bergen

1.00

Type: Design competition

Client: Bergen municipality

Program: urban plaza, market place, visitor’s centre, ruin, bridge, harbour, refurbishing, etc.

Location: Vågen, Bergen

Status: Competition won June 2019

Collaborators: Asplan Viak, Sanden+Hodnekvam, Zenisk, Studio Holmedal

Rodeo Architects, together with Asplan Viak, Sanden Hodnekvam, Zenisk and Studio Holmedal, wins the competition for new design of Torget and Bryggen area in Bergen.

Mot Vågen was named winner of all three main prizes in the competition. This means that our team will continue working with the master plan for this historically important part of Bergen, as well as focusing on the urban design of the areas around Nikolaikirkeallmenningen and Fisketorget.

The introduction of a new light rail tram (bybanen) brings with it the rejuvenation of the whole city center of Bergen. In our proposal, this entails a new urban floor, new ways of accessing the water, ideas for how to communicate Bergen’s rich cultural heritage and ways to diversify and add to the city life of Bergen.
